Re: Need to create a tooling assembly with interchangeble parts

Well, I personally like the method of an increasing table more (which would be the easiest thing with family table functionality in Creo Parametric). Alternatively saving a drawing for each family instance (of the assembly, so everything adapts) would be a nice and disk space saving solution, too.

But if you want to rule out family tables and you don't mind having copied models instead, you could use one "master drawing" of tooling assembly with all the relations and then simply modify it and copy.

To get the drawing copied with the assembly, you can use the "hack" type of functionality with the config.pro option "rename_drawings_with_model":

  • Set the option to "assem" (or "both") and make sure the name of drawing and assembly is the same.
  • Then you can simply use File > Save As for the assembly and a new drawing will be copied referencing the new assembly (new drawing has the name of the new assembly).

I call it a "hack" type functionality, because it does not go for drawing models, but only for same name. If you dislike the name, you may rename the new drawing after copying, because name coincidence is only needed for the automatic copying.
